Strong indications suggest that the first generation Asian Indians highly value family closeness. The once cherished practices such as dowry, caste system, and other pseudo-religious practices are becoming less important among the moderates and the assimilators because there is a growing interest for the Western style of living. Changes in parenting style, arrangement of marriages, attitude towards divorce, parental expectations, and eating habits are some key impact areas that immigration has had on the Asian Indian culture.
